A boat-day question needs more than the weather. Start with one structured conditions summary, then drill into forecast hours, tides, hazards and nearby coastal places without maintaining a collection of page scrapers.

Resolve a verified spot ID and request its conditions summary. Use the bundled data before adding more calls.
Context travels with the answer
Source names, observation times and unavailable states help your app explain what is known and what still needs checking.

Keep the context with the data.
Data responses use { data, meta }; errors use { error }. Preserve source names, observation times, freshness and unavailable states. A fresh response can still contain an unavailable upstream source. Missing values mean unknown.
Units follow each response contract: ft, kt, s, F, mi or explicitly named nautical miles, and directions FROM. Times include timezone information. Tide heights use their stated datum.
Build for real conditions.
Handle 400 for invalid inputs, 401/403 for account permissions, 429 for rate limiting, and 503 for unavailable data. Honor Retry-After and back off; public API and MCP requests share per-client and global admission limits.
Public GET requests support browser CORS without credentials. Private account routes retain their existing protection. Use explicit vessel dimensions for public route planning; personal vessel tools require OAuth.
